How to Mint a Base Name Service (BNS) username for FREE

Step 1

First, go to base.org/names.

Enter the username you want to check its availability.

Tip: names with 5+ characters can be minted for free.

If your chosen name is available, select it and move to the next step.

 

Step 2

Connect your MetaMask wallet. You’ll then see two options for securing your name:

  • Pay a small fee in ETH for a 1-year registration, or

  • Click “Learn more”, then select “Get verification” to go to the page where you can verify your wallet and claim the username for free.

 

Step 3

After clicking “Get verification,” you’ll be redirected to the onchain verification page.

Click “Get verified” to continue.

You’ll then be sent to the Coinbase login page. Sign in if you already have an account, and you’ll be taken back to the verification flow.

Next:

  1. Click Add wallet

  2. Click Choose wallet and select MetaMask

  3. Click Agree & verify

 

Step 4

Return to Base Names. You should now see the option to claim your username for 0 ETH.

Click Register name, confirm the MetaMask transaction, and you’re all set!
