Symmetrical Triangle

Concept

Neutral consolidation structure that can break either direction. Volume typically contracts as the pattern matures.

Trading Plan

  • Two or more lower highs.
  • Two or more higher lows.
  • Converging trendlines and volume contraction.

Confirmation

  • Break and close outside triangle boundary.
  • Retest holding as support/resistance improves confidence.

Invalidation

  • Failed breakout that returns inside triangle.

Targets

  • Measured move = widest part of structure added to breakout point.

Measured move: Target ≈ Breakout ± Triangle height

Risk

Opposite side of triangle from breakout.
